An important shortcoming in the statistics released with the opening of the National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NCADA) concerns the levels of drug offending in Australia. Law enforcement initiatives form an important part of the campaign and it is vital that the public, policy makers and law enforcement agencies have a comprehensive picture of drug law enforcement measures. This is particularly important because enforcement statistics are often used in a biased and unscientific manner to illustrate particular points of view in the drugs debate.

This project was funded by the Crime Prevention Branch of the Criminal Justice Division, Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department.
Each year, a panel of at least three members will evaluate responses to the approach to market. Two of the three panel members are senior criminologists selected by the Criminology Research Advisory Council from among those recommended by the President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Criminology.
Panel members evaluate all responses independently of each other. Their evaluations are then discussed with the academic adviser to the CRG program, who submits final recommendations to the Advisory Council for consideration.
