Abstract
Beyer aims to establish what is meant by "community policing" and identifies and examines the organisational characteristics which appear to assist the successful integration of community policing in police organisations. She provides examples of problem solving by police and identifies and examines some of the causes of organisational resistance to the notion of community policing.
