Abstract
As most homicide statistics are derived from police offence reports, the purpose of this report is to outline the quality control processes implemented by the National Homicide Monitoring Program (NHMP). The report outlines the data collection processes of the NHMP and examines quality control processes, discussing selected examples where discrepancies in the sources of data have been identified and showing how such discrepancies are rectified. The report highlights the necessity of a rigorous quality control regime in order to ensure consistency in both recording and counting rules.
