Fraud against the Commonwealth: Report to Government 2014–15

Abstract

The Fraud Against the Commonwealth Report for 201415 presents research findings on the level of fraud risk affecting Commonwealth entities and the government’s approach to preventing and responding to acts of dishonesty perpetrated within and against the Commonwealth. For the three years 201213 to 201415, 417,480 incidents of suspected fraud were detected worth over $1.208 billion with more than one third of Commonwealth entities experiencing fraud. During the three years, 3,699 defendants were prosecuted for fraud by the Office of the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions. In 201415, almost one third of sentences imposed involved actual imprisonment.
