Abstract

The purpose of this report is to provide illicit drug use information on those people who are detained and brought to a police station. Data are obtained by means of interviews and urine samples from detainees at four sites: Southport Watchhouse (Qld), East Perth Lockup, Bankstown Police Station (NSW) and Parramatta Police Station (NSW). Urine samples are tested for six classes of drugs: amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabis, cocaine, methadone and opiates. Statistics are also presented, for each site, on llicit drug use and self reported criminal activity, and self reported alcohol use. Data are also presented for 149 juveniles in Bankstown and Parramatta.
