Violence in Australia

Abstract

Violence in our society extends much further than the violent crime which is sometimes sensationalised in the media. The extent and breadth of the problem of violence, in both its criminal and non-criminal aspects, are reflected in the National Committee on Violence terms of reference. They are terms of reference which recognise the need to provide an insightful and balanced understanding of the causes of violent crime and violent behaviour, and the necessity of proposing ways in which we can all enjoy the benefits of living in a less violent country.
