The size of the crime problem in Australia

Abstract

The first part of this publication provides an historical sequence using the Police Commissioners' annual reports as the data source. The final section presents the new series of Selected Crime Statistics, which contains six-monthly data on crimes reported and cleared. It also offers information on the age and sex distribution of arrestees, the size and cost of maintaining the police force, and police workloads in terms of the number of crimes reported and cleared per police officer.
