Abstract
On 1 July 1980 the Australian Institute of Criminology held a one day seminar on the subject of 'Why is it safer to live in Tokyo?'. This seminar was specially designed to serve the interests of people in Canberra (Australian Capital Territory), who had a concern with crime or some link with Japan. This report is an account of the meeting which took place before the symposium to study the characteristics of the Japanese success, as well as the papers and discussions from the symposium.
