Abstract
This paper introduces readers to certain basic considerations of police research and with information concerning police and police related research in Australia and overseas. Part one outlines some organisational considerations pertinent to police research and presents a framework conceptualising the major dimensions of police research. Part two discusses the scope of police and police related research undertaken in Australia within police forces, public and private agencies possessing substantial research functions, and universities and individuals. Part three discusses what is occurring overseas in relation to police and police related research in the United States of America, Canada, and England and Wales.
