Women in transition : social control in Papua New Guinea

Abstract

Banks discusses the social control of women in a changing Papua New Guinea society. How the legal system treats women in Papua New Guinea, and the effects of the social control system on the status of women are issues that she discusses at length. Accounts of social control and women in the Bena Bena, Arapesh, Tolai and Orokaiva cultural groups are given.
