ISSN:

Abstract

The information presented in this issue covers deaths which occurred while people were in the custody of Australia's police, prisons and juvenile justice authorities during the 1995 calendar year. The number of deaths was higher than that for the previous year, particularly the number of Aboriginal deaths. The paper also provides excerpts from coroners' inquests into deaths in custody, both Aboriginal and non Aboriginal, during 1994 and 1995. Each case includes details about the date, place and circumstances of the death; when, where and by whom the inquest was conducted; and some of the coroner's comments, findings and recommendations.
