    PAPERS FROM A SEMINAR 19-22 FEBRUARY 1985
This is the report of the fourth biennial seminar conducted by the Institute under the formal title 'Review of Australian Criminological Research' usually referred to simply as the 'research seminar'. The format and organisation of this seminar was similar to those conducted in 1979, 1981 and 1983, but this one was considerably larger as there were 48 speakers on the program compared with 37 on the last occasion. For this reason the program was extremely crowded and the working day was slightly longer than usual. Nevertheless, each speaker was allowed a little over 20 minutes and, as most presentations were kept down to 15 minutes, there was reasonable time for discussion within each session. The chairpersons nominated for each session were fairly strict in ensuring that no individual speaker used more than his or her ration of time. As far as possible the papers were put together in groups of three or four for each session around central themes or ideas, and this facilitated an exchange of views between researchers working in the same or similar areas.

    PAPERS FROM A SEMINAR 22-25 FEBRUARY 1983
This is the report of the third biennial research seminar conducted by the Institute and its aim, as in the previous research seminars held in 1979 and 1981, was to provide an opportunity for people actually engaged in criminological research to share their experiences in a mutually supportive environment in such a way that their confidence and competence as researchers may be enhanced by their participation. The seminar was held over the period 22 to 25 February 1983, during which time nearly 40 papers were presented in a very crowded program. The bulk of this report comprises summaries of those papers.

    PAPERS FROM A SEMINAR 24-27 FEBRUARY 1981
The seminar which generated the papers contained in this volume was the second of its type conducted by the Institute. The first, held in February 1979, was largely attended by recipients of grants from the Criminology Research Council, the Institute's own research staff and a small number of researchers employed by other organisations. The same groups were represented at the 1981 seminar but research workers from police and corrections departments were also included. This expansion meant that over 40 papers were presented during the fourday period and therefore only brief outlines of current or recently completed research could be permitted. The bulk of this volume comprises summaries of papers that were prepared by the researchers who participated. More details of the research projects outlined here may be obtained by contacting individual researchers directly.
