Media release from Attorney-General, the Hon Daryl Williams AM QC MP; and Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator Hon Chris Ellison

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Toni Makkai as the Acting Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC).

The interim appointment is due to the resignation of Dr Adam Graycar, who has been the Director of the AIC since 1994.

Dr Graycar has left the AIC to take up an appointment in the Cabinet Office, South Australia. We wish Dr Graycar well in his new position and thank him for his significant work at the AIC.

She will act as Director while a recruitment process is undertaken. The position will be advertised shortly.

The Australian Institute of Criminology, a Commonwealth statutory authority, was established in 1973 and operates under the Criminology Research Act 1971.

The AIC's functions include conducting criminological research, communicating the results of research, conducting or arranging conferences, seminars or courses of training and publishing material arising out of the AIC's work.
