Australia's first Art Crime Conference will be held in Sydney this week.

The two-day conference, being organised by the Australian Institute of Criminology, may also be a world first.

It will focus on all aspects of art crime - fakes and forgeries, theft, money laundering, detection techniques and prevention strategies. Among the speakers will be members of the art industry, police officers and criminologists.

The conference is on Thursday and Friday at the Landmark Parkroyal Hotel, Potts Point. It will be opened by the Minister for Justice and Customs, Senator Amanda Vanstone.
