Introduction

The First national conference on violence was organised by the Australian Institute of Criminology on behalf of the National Committee on Violence. The papers cover topics such as: the incidence and causes of violence; deterrence measures; perceptions of violence on television; public violence; domestic assault; international perspectives; socioeconomic determinants; masculinity; and issues relating to victims of violence.
