Less common, but nevertheless costly forms of theft, range from stealing firearms to stealing materials from building sites. Recent AIC research has found that thefts from residential building sites across Australia is increasing, affecting more than a third of residential builders. Goods are usually taken from an affected house as it nears completion. Through its National Firearms Theft Monitoring Program (NFTMP) the AIC has also found that stolen firearms are generally taken from homes and, although most are registered, many owners have neglected to secure them safely. For more research findings see the resources and links on this page.
