Crime by demographic group
Crime can be analysed in many ways to help us better understand its causes, impact and prevention. Sometimes crimes form patterns of characteristics that link particular demographic groups to certain types of crime. This is the case with the relationships between crime and ethnic groups, older people, women and young people. Considerable research has been conducted both internationally and in Australia on the characteristics of crime for specific demographic groups. The AIC website offers links to its own research as well as a comprehensive collection of international and Australian studies on each of these demographic groups.
