Gambling

Problem gambling can harm both individuals and families and can lead to crime. An estimated 20-25 per cent of problem gamblers commit gambling-related offences, the most common being fraud. In the past decade more than a quarter of a billion dollars is thought to have been lost to gambling-related fraud through crimes such as defrauding the government, falsifying accounts, forgery, fraudulent misappropriation, stealing as a servant, and use of false documentation. Most of this money is never recovered. AIC research into gambling-related fraud together with studies from around Australia are available on this website.
